Maria VASSILAKOU
Biographical note
Maria Vassilakou started her political career as Secretary General of the Austrian Students’ Union. In November 1996 she became Member of the Vienna Provincial Parliament. Since November 2010 Maria Vassilakou is Deputy Mayor of Vienna and Executive City Councillor for Urban Planning, Traffic & Transport, Climate Protection, Energy and Public Participation. Maria Vassilakou is the first Executive City Councillor with a migration background. She was born in Greece and sees Vienna as an open, modern and diverse city.
Presentation: Vienna’s Smart City strategy: the city for life
Vienna’s smart city strategy has been ranked number 1 in last month’s Roland Berger Ranking. The strategy follows a holistic approach and includes all dimensions of life. Transport and mobility are among the crucial fields of innovation in Vienna. A special focus of the strategy is on social aspects and citizen participation. Vienna is an open-minded and vibrant city with a high quality of life. To maintain this high level also in the future, Vienna has been implementing measures in line with the overall smart city strategy.
