Presentation: Energy-conservation and carbon-reduction practices at Taipei Metro
As the Taipel Metro’s ridership continues to grow, its energy consumption and carbon emission are increasing, too. Thus, in 2006, the Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (TRTC) set up the Energy Conservation Committee to improve energy efficiency. The committee promotes effective management and implementation of energy-conservation measures, starting with lighting, air conditioning, escalators, trains and the general power system, to adjusting and reducing non-essential services, promoting equipment energy efficiency, and employing natural energy sources. From 2006 to 2016, the energy consumption KPI has been reduced by 17%, from 39.2 to 32.19 kWh/train-km. This presentation will introduce energy saving strategies and showcase some useful practices of the Taipei Metro.
