Sharat SHARMA
Biographical note
Sharat Sharma is an Electrical Engineer by profession and has working experience of 37 years. Since 2013, he is working as Director (Operations)/Delhi Metro associated with Operation & Maintenance of 213 km of network having 160 stations, cater to approx. 3.0 million passengers/day. He has dealt with tendering, designing, consultancy, contracts management and execution of projects worth INR 700 billion (Phase-I, Phase-II, Phase-III) of the project. He is also on Board of Directors of Chennai Metro.
Prior to DMRC, worked in Indian Railways for 20 years. Working as Director/Safety, Ministry of Railways for 7 years, co-ordinated and handled safety of all zonal railways, formulated safety plans and assisted Parliamentary affairs related to safety of Indian Railways. He has been awarded with many prestigious awards.
Presentation: Towards a more energy efficient urban transport system: Delhi Metro initiatives
The objective of this presentation is to discuss the steps taken by Delhi Metro towards conserving the energy and protecting the environment and making it Green Metro and giving impetus on the use of renewable energy sources. DMRC has taken a proactive approach through structured measures to optimise the energy consumption through technology and resorted to online monitoring, assessing and meeting the traffic demand. DMRC has introduced regenerative braking in all trains, construction of stations and buildings as per Green Building norms, use of LED lights, installation of variable volume chillers, installation of roof top solar power plants and benchmarking power requirements. Its 05 projects are already registered by UNFCCC and DMRC is earning Carbon Credits on it. The endeavour is to make the organisation economically and environmentally sustainable and socially acceptable.
