Anne-Sophie PONSOT

Biographical note
Anne-Sophie Ponsot joined the International Centre for the Prevention of Crime (ICPC) in April 2016. She holds an MSc in Sociology with a specialization in Gender and Sexuality from the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and a BA in Sociology from McGill University, in Montreal. As an analyst and project officer at ICPC, she has contributed to a number of projects and reports on the prevention of radicalisation as well as a chapter on preventing crime associated with drug use in ICPC’s 5th International Report on Crime Prevention and Community Safety.

Presentation: Preventing crime and fear of crime in ground public transport
This presentation will provide practitioners and decision makers with tools to understand crime and fear of crime in ground public transport in order to implement preventive measures efficiently. The first step will be to present how to conduct a security diagnosis in a public transport system in order to identify the risk factors that need to be addressed. A special emphasis will be made on the particularity of the observation of crime in public transport. Secondly, categories of crime and fear of crime prevention in public transport systems will be presented. Examples of successful implementation of these approaches worldwide will also be provided. The presentation will conclude with a summary of the structural elements that need to be taken into account to ensure an efficient approach in crime and fear of crime prevention.
