Vasily OSTRYAKOV

Biographical note
Mr. Vasily Ostryakov is the chief executive of the St. Petersburg’s State Unitary Enterprise ‘Gorelectrotrans’. He graduated from the Moscow Institute of Railway Engineers in 1981, specializing in railway transport engineer for railway operation. From 1992 to 2000 he worked as the head of Europe’s largest railway station, then from 2001 to 2007 he worked as the chief of the Yaroslavl station in Moscow. In 2007, he was the Head of the Department of luggage transportation of Federal Passenger Directorate, OAO ‘Russian Railways’, and from 2008 to 2010 – the Head of the Gorky Regional Directorate for passenger service. In 2011 he was the CEO of ‘Volga-Vyatka suburban passenger company’. In December 2012 he was appointed CEO of St. Petersburg State Unitary Enterprise ‘Gorelectrotrans’. In February 2015 he was elected President of the International Association of city electric transport enterprises. For professional achievements he was awarded the ‘Honorary railwayman’ in 1995 and the Order III of the Russian Orthodox Church of St. Sergius in 2007.

Presentation of the history of urban electric transport in St. Petersburg (Leningrad) and the role of the state electric transport during the siege of Leningrad by Nazi troops in the Second World War and the development of the electric transport in the postwar period.
Mr. Ostryakov will also present the current status of the electric transport in St. Petersburg, the development of the trolleybus network and trolley types and the electric bus as the convergence of trolleybus and bus.
