Presentation : Are your Transit Information Systems Smart City ready?
One of the important issues in bringing information to travellers in transit is to create a truly journey centric information system, insuring that the information being provided is accessible, accurate and actionable, and that it can be integrated into and part of a Smart City. Traditional Traveller Information System providers have been in the marketplace for many years, but often, transit operators are left with a disparate traveller information environment with islands of information that do not communicate together effectively, or are easily integrated into a Smart City initiative. TRANSIS is an example of a new system that can not only provide valuable real-time and interactive information to travellers, but can also importantly increase the efficiencies of transit and city operations by providing and enhancing the information used by many operations, maintenance and customer service people at the transit operators. TRANSIS key strength is that it can progressively be implemented with new projects.
This presentation will describe this fully integrated approach with examples of its use in North American and abroad and will describe why this approach is today very relevant and appropriate for many medium and large transit operators.
