Presentation: Driveless unattended metro: the answer to the current and future needs of urban mobility
Within the urban public transport sector, the significant increases in: transport demand; passengers requirements in terms of service comfort; drive for operating efficiency and punctuality; and the restricted budgets of regional and local Authorities to operate mass transit rail systems oblige Transportation Authorities and rail transit Operators to choose transportation systems offering very high-quality, high frequency, attractive and reliable service to be a real alternative to compete with private cars and to find innovative technology to reduce operating costs. As staff represents a significant part of the costs of running a passenger rail system, Unattended Transportation Systems provides an opportunity to improve both service and economic efficiency. Since they are unattended and require a very small staff for operation, the service frequency can be kept at an acceptable level.
