Presentation: Charging technologies for electric buses
The operation of more than 10 000 city buses were studied on various markets around the globe. The observations were summarized as operational requirements and grouped into user classes such as non-stop operation, average city bus operation, peak-hour operation and school bus operation.
The analysis shows that some small groups of niche operations may require special charging solutions however for the vast majority of buses the analysis shows that a combination of atomized fast opportunity charging and slow charging is required to meet the requirements for almost all buses. When adding the cost and volume advantage by choosing solutions that utilize car charger technology the number of viable solutions in narrowed down. In order to enable charging of all types of buses, single decker and double decker’s and solutions that can be delivered by more than one supplier the group is further reduced to one available solution, OppCharge.
