Biographical note
José Tomás Fernández García, currently Global Sales Director at Goal Systems, has a Bachelor in Economics and a Master in Business Administration and Human Resources. His professional career in the transport field was mainly accomplished at Renfe (Spanish National Railways) where he held the positions of Training Director, Director of Technological Innovation, and Director of the Freight Business Unit. He has also been sales manager for the railway sector at Indra and Sales Director of AEA Technology (British Railways). Alongside his career he is Professor of MBA and Master of Human Resources and Economics at the Center for Financial Studies, Business Management and Human Resources, Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

Presentation: Benefits of joint scheduling
The aim of the presentation is to explain the mathematical and technical approach behind joint scheduling that can solve all three steps (timetabling, blocking and runcutting) in a single one and its applicability to real operations around the world. Moreover, the differences and applicability of the joint approach between rail/fixed route scheduling will be explained, based on real examples of different transportation systems from all over the world.
