Jonathan BRAY

Biographical note
Jonathan joined Urban Transport Group (then pteg) in 2003 as Assistant Director, and then was appointed Director in 2008. Before that Jonathan’s background was a mix of transport policy and transport campaigning. He was also one of the founders and co-ordinators of the campaign against the national road programme in the early nineties and later led the Save our Railways campaign against rail privatisation. He has also worked for the Campaign for Better Transport on a range of sustainable transport issues. Overall the hallmark of Jonathan’s career has been a steadfast commitment to sustainable and equitable transport policies. This includes playing a major role in some of the biggest battles for progressive change to public policy on transport.

Urban mobility and the urban and social transition – Total Transport has the potential to improve the availability and efficiency of bus services by making better use of existing resources. Digitalisation – electronic systems are required to coordinate fleets centrally and ensure the right vehicles are used for the right job at the right time. In the UK, alongside the mainstream bus network, there are multiple fleets of vehicles performing various functions – often for publicly funded agencies. These include social services, education and patient transport fleets, all with separate budgets, bureaucracies and policies. Often these overlap, duplicate or are underutilised, generating inefficiencies. TT would bring vehicles together into a shared pool under one budget. The vehicle pool would be coordinated centrally ensuring the right vehicle is used for the right job and that the mainstream network is used where possible. Towards more energy efficient urban transport systems – Total Transport aims to remove duplication of services and ensure that available vehicles are efficiently coordinated.
