Presentation: Connected and autonomous vehicles and the future of mobility in urban area
Technology and data underpin everything we do and have been critical in delivering fundamental improvements to our services for customers. However, technological developments often require us to change the way we operate. Connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs) are no exception and they will disrupt established patterns of transport globally. A failure to engage with this change could have significant detrimental impacts on future cities including increased congestion, lower air quality and an increase in private car journeys.
Public transport authorities/operators and policy makers must embrace this change and ‘Lead the TRANSITion’. Much has been written and said about what CAVs will be able to do, but less attention as been paid to what policies and regulatory frameworks cities need to put in place to harness the benefits from these new technologies to help tackle air pollution, congestion and social exclusion.
