Philippe SCHNOBB
Biographical note
Philippe Schnobb holds the office of Chairman of the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) Board of directors, serving as a representative for public transit users. Since his appointment in 2013, he has taken the STM in a strategic new direction, focused on improving the customer experience. Mr. Schnobb is also Chairman of the Board of the Association du transport urbain du Québec (ATUQ) that represents the nine public transit organizations in Québec. He serves on the board of BIXI Montréal, a public bicycle sharing system, and is a member of the host committee for the Union internationale des transports publics (UITP) Global Public Transport Summit, a major event co-hosted by the STM in 2017. Prior to moving to the STM, Philippe Schnobb enjoyed a career as a journalist for Radio-Canada for nearly 30 years, often covering public transit issues, as editor for municipal affairs. He also authored a book, entitled Faire-part pour mariages forcés, published by Lanctôt in 2001, around the time municipal mergers were the order of the day. His professional life led him to work at several regional Radio-Canada stations. He pursued studies in history and communications at the University of Ottawa, the Faculté Saint-Jean in Edmonton, and at Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). He was secretary-treasurer and member of the executive committee of the Fédération professionnelle des journalistes du Québec (FPJQ) from December 2002 to November 2010.
