MOBILITY AS A SERVICE & COMBINED MOBILITY
Autonomous vehicles (AV) offer a unique chance for a fundamental change in public mobility and could lead to a greener and more livable future. However is this the direction we are going in?
Even though it is clear that they would significantly improve road safety, it is unlikely that autonomous driving in itself will be sufficient unless the shift to AV makes us rethink how vehicles are used in cities. The key issue is promoting the shared use of AV.
Moblity as a Service (MaaS) which is emerging today is preparing us towards this future. MaaS, platforms offering multimodal mobility services combining public transport and shared modes offer citizens the travel flexibility and convenience of the private car, without the negative sides. Mobility as a Service, Mobility Shops or integrated mobility platforms are hence key to reduce car ownership.
MaaS is preparing for a new urban transport environment by integrating new mobility services which will potentially contribute to the growth of public transport.
