KRRI was founded in March 1996 financed by the Korean government. KRRI has come a long way since its inception in 1996 to develop and apply its highly advanced rail technology. Aligned with the global demands of low carbon emission and environmental sustainability, the research body has been unfolding key national projects; high speed rail (430km/h), safety systems, urban transit systems, tilting train, bimodal trams, catenary-free trams and logistics standardization.
